The Dream
"Whoever welcomes a little child in my name welcomes me. And whoever welcomes me welcomes not only me, but the one who sent me."
Mark 9:36-37
Our desire is to help meet the great need for foster homes in our county. Agape House will be a large home where multiple foster "host" families live and work together to create a family environment for children in the foster system. We know that the family model is best and healthiest for children, so Agape House will be a family-oriented home.
Currently, Texas law allows for each certified foster family to care for six children at a time, including biological, foster, and adopted children. When four or five families come together, we can house 24-30 children at once. This also allows for sibling sets to stay together in one home, rather than being separated.
The details are still in the works, but the vision is something like the drawing on this page, with multiple dorms for children, as well as host dorms for foster parents. Agape House will welcome caseworkers, parent visits, and volunteers. The courtyard is a must, it will be a place where children can play outside safely. We hope to have a basketball court, a garden, a library, and a sensory room to help meet the many needs of all the children who will be in our care.
